Healthy Alternative

by Nicci on 06/23/2010

Sometimes I just want a big bowl.

Chris loves his sugary cereal, on the mornings he’s off from work. I love my ceareal on the weekends or as a late night snack. I lean towards ”Raisin Bran” most days. Yum. I need the box that contains the EXRA SCOOP of raisins. My all time guilty pleasure is that colorful box of  Fruity Pebbles…takes me back to my childhood days of watching cartoons on Saturday mornings.

Healthy alternative

This mornings breakfast:  cantaloupe, strawberries, black berries and Galaxy Granola’s  new ”Maple Pecan Quinoa” granola.

Mix it all up.

What’s your favorite kind of cereal?

How do you make your breakfast healthy?

Cereal looks yummy.

I’ve always wanted to try Rasin Bran, believe it or not! I’ve never eaten cereal for breakfast as a child growing up. My mom always fixed us traditional filipino breakfast that consists of rice, eggs, and some kind of meat. lol. I actually didn’t try cereal ’til I got to college! Crazy huh?! Anyway, my favorite kind of cereal are cheerios and honey bunches of oats :) good stuff!

Fit Chick in the City June 29, 2010 at 1:00 pm

I almost bought that cereal at the store yesterday. I haven’t had cereal in what seems like forever and it sounded so good!

Your blog is SO CUTE! I love it!! My favorite breakfast is probably pancakes, but I’m good with really chocolatey oatmeal as well. I make them healthy by using whole ingredients and make them from scratch instead of from a mix.

I used to rock the raisin bran when I was a wheat eater and actually ate cereal. Love it!

Seriously I have a cereal addiction. I could eat it for every meal and can not place it in my home because of it!

xxoo

I haven’t had Raisin Bran in forevvvvver! I used to love that stuff but I’m not really a cereal person anymore b/c I have no portion control when it comes to it. I can eat bowls on end and that’s just not good for me so I very rarely indulge. Raisin Bran and Fruit Pebbles were always my top faves. And the fro yo place near me has Fruity Pebbles as a topping so it’s a win/win!

Cinnamon Life was my ALL TIME FAVORITE growing up! Now I try to do the yogurt/granola/fruit thing to keep it healthy in the morning.

Raisin bran is one of my favs. Anything with dried fruit gets placed in the top of my lists.
Funny that you mention fruity pebbles, those are one of my favs too. Hubs and i were justalking about our top 5 cereals last week. Rounding out my “non healthy” top five (in no particular order)
1. kelloggs corn pops
2. Rasin bran
3. Fruity bebbles
4. Reeses cups cereal
5. Smores
5. Frosted mini wheats
5. Cinnamon Toast crunch!

YEAH!

Becca- I love your Top 5

I loved Life cereal, Raisin Bran and Quaker Oat Squares when I was a kid. I found a Barbara’s Bakery cereal that tastes just like LIFE! If only that could happen with Quaker Squares. I don’t eat much cereal these days as I was trying to stay pretty low-carb. But, intuitive eating has opened up the cereal aisle for me again :)

Salah@myhealthiestlifestyle June 24, 2010 at 6:31 pm

I love Raisin Bran….I usually like to start my days off with a smoothie or oats but some times i’ll just get a massive craving for cold cereal and will eat nothing but that for like 3 days lol

Meredith (Pursuing Balance) June 24, 2010 at 11:21 am

I don’t know if I have a favorite cereal, but I loooove cereal in general! I always check how high up sugar is on the ingredient list before I buy, add a serving of fruit, and almond milk to make it healthier . .. also, I always measure out my cereal! Otherwise I think I’d be tempted to eat too much of it (yes, I love it that much!).

Sues June 24, 2010 at 7:31 am

Yum! I love cereal as a snack/dessert and Raisin Bran is definitely one of my favorites too :) I love all kinds of granola too, but tend to eat way too much of it!

Laurie June 23, 2010 at 10:16 pm

I am totally not a fan of cereal, but I do remember picking the raisins out of Raisin Bran when I was a kid. Ah, the memories.

I absolutely LOVE Raisin Bran … and Corn Pops!

Mari June 23, 2010 at 7:48 pm

I have always been obsessed with cereals, to the point that I really can’t keep them in the house because I finish a box in one day!

My fave naughty cereal is Count Chocula! lol

'Drea June 23, 2010 at 7:39 pm

I used to have a serious jones for Cinnamon Toast Crunch then Yogurt Burst Cheerios (strawberry or vanilla). Of late, though, I’ve been on oatmeal kick. I think I might even hold a Guinness record by now.

Katie June 23, 2010 at 7:24 pm

I hear ya, sometimes I just want to keep going back to the bowl of cereal! If I want cereal, I try to mix a filling “granola” style cereal (like Kashi GoLean Crunch) with a lower calorie cereal (GoLean or Puffins) and add fruit or yogurt. Much more satisfying!

Lindsay Perrone June 23, 2010 at 6:38 pm

captain crunch is my fave all time sugary bfast.

Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly June 23, 2010 at 3:18 pm

I love cereal! It is the most perfect food in my opinion…I love honey nut cheerios!!

DaMora June 23, 2010 at 9:27 am

Raisin Bran has been my all time fave forever!!! But that doesn’t mean I don’t like to get down on some sugary kiddie cereal too. Cap’n Crunch, Cocoa Pebbles, Lucky Charms, Golden Crisp, and just about all the Cheerios flavors. (to name a few)

We are a cereal family, mostly for late nights, and our house is always full of cereal. It’s hard to resist sometimes.

Nicci June 23, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Damora- Totally forgot about Lucky Charms. Yum!!

Jenna June 23, 2010 at 9:25 am

Ohh, Raisin Bran. I actually really, really love that cereal!

My favorite naughty cereal is Reese’s PB Puffs, soaked in milk for awhile. Sounds disgusting, but I absolutely can’t get enough!

Trinity (of haiku tofu) June 23, 2010 at 9:21 am

Naughty cereal- Cap’n Crunch! Nice cereal- wheat chex! but i love me some Raisin Bran too! 2 scoops!

christina June 23, 2010 at 8:54 am

my favorite naughty cereal is lucky charms. i also love golden grahams. why do they have to be so bad? :( i make my breakfast healthy by adding fruit, making sure it has fiber, and adding flax seed!

Heather (Where's the Beach) June 23, 2010 at 8:50 am

Oh, that cereal sounds awesome. I am a Kashi fan. I love their shredded wheat cereals and the Toasted Berry Crumble is to die for.
