Baked Oats to Warm The Heart

by Nicci on 02/11/2010

Today is a SNOW DAY here in Texas! Meaning my office is closed and hopefully Friday too, in order to have a fabulous 5 day weekend!  I only hope that the snow does not ruin any weekend plans.

This weekend Chris and I will be attending the Vagina Monologues.  The Vagina Monologues is part of an amazing global movement called V Day. www.vday.org

It addresses violence against women and children. We went to the play last year and it was humorous but also some monologues were sad.

Extra Bonus: RENT is being performed on stage by our local community college.  Chris and I are going with a group of friends on Friday. I love this musical… I’ve got all the songs on my ipod, cd in car and the movie.

I tend to break out the RENT soundtrack when I have parties…all the straight people tend to leave. Wait! maybe that’s why I have few straight friends attending my parties. :)

What to eat on a snowy day…something warm.

Breakfast:

Baked Oats with Banana

Missy always pops up when she smells something cooking in the kitchen.

Agenda in the snow:

  • 30 Day Shred- (I don’t run in the snow, so no 2 miles)
  • Post office – mail packages and V-day cards
  • Grocery store
  • Cleaning

I might as well take advantage of this day off and get things rolling.

Anyone stuck indoors or having to work in the snow? What’s your snow story?

Vitalicious asked me to share their new giveaway with my readers.  I know diamonds are my best friends!

While Vitalicious’ nutrient-packed, 100-calorie VitaTops and VitaMuffins are the perfect gift all on their own, they are sweetening the deal with a genuine, diamond-studded Tiffany Pendant valued at $800! This is going on through February in honor of National Heart Month and Valentine’s Day:

Even if you don’t win the Grand Prize, you will be automatically entered to win one of 150 one-monthsupplies of VitaTops!

You should have run in the snow. I did, it was SOO fun!! I got a bet wet from the slushy streets, but it wasn’t too bad. Never felt cold.

caronae February 16, 2010 at 5:49 pm

I love vagina monologues — such a great movement. I’m used to running in the snow, so let me know if ya want any tips :)

Nicole February 16, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Eating warm, baked oatmeal while it’s cold and snowy outside is the best thing ever! Plus, you have that cute doggy to cuddle with!

Whole Body Love February 14, 2010 at 8:59 pm

On my cross train days I lift and use the elliptical at the community center. If it’s too cold (below freezing) to run outside, I run at the Community Center. I am so tired of the darn DreadMill!!!!!!!!!!

Happy snow day! I love baked oats! I love soups for snow days, too! :)

Katie February 12, 2010 at 2:54 pm

Snow day in Texas?! Hope you enjoyed it!

Happy V-day to you and Chris, and have a great weekend!

Kristen @ Change of Pace February 12, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Oats are definitely good on any cold day. Especially if it’s snowy! Then probably soup for lunch :)

Laura Georgina February 12, 2010 at 12:01 pm

How surreal to have a snow day in Texas! Enjoy the snow and make a nifty snowwoman!

Trinity February 12, 2010 at 11:50 am

Those oats look soooooo good. I should have swung by your house yesterday and picked some up haha!

Lauren @ Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful February 12, 2010 at 8:58 am

I’m embarrassed to say this, but I didn’t even know they got snow in Texas. We have had so much snow here in DC. And I’m like you-I do NOT run in the snow. Your baked outs look delish

Nicci February 12, 2010 at 9:31 am

Lauren- 8 inches Record high!!!We’re so excited about the snow.

so sad I’m missing the snow. :(

Lee February 11, 2010 at 9:02 pm

I had baked oatmeal today too! I had apple instead of banana.

Enjoy the Vagina Monologues. I saw it probably 7-8 years ago and it was very good.

ChocolateOrchid February 11, 2010 at 7:59 pm

Oh my!! What kind of snow is hitting big Texas?!… Be safe and have fun on your snow day. We are expecting snow mid-morning tomorrow. Wish it was overnight so that I’d have a definite day off. Oh well.

Also, I would love to hear more about the Vagina Monologues. When it first hit the scene I never really was that interested in it but I keep hearing more and more good things about it. So my curiousity is definitely peaked. I’ll have to see when it will be in Atlanta.

Yum Yucky February 11, 2010 at 7:54 pm

You had postal service!? They totally shut us down over here.

Jessie February 11, 2010 at 5:00 pm

A snow day in Texas?? No way!! Enjoy it!

We didn’t get nearly as much snow as the weatherpeople predicted. But, we still got the day off — I’m not complaining! :)

Erica @ Fashion meets Food February 11, 2010 at 2:43 pm

A snow day in Texas that’s crazy! I just found your blog and love it! I saw the Vagina Monologues when I was in college. My sorority sisters and I all got “I (heart) my vagina” shirts… my mum threw mine out (at least I am pretty sure that is what happened to it)

Nicci February 11, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Erica- I so want a shirt that say that!!

Runeatrepeat February 11, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Yeah for V Day!

Jenna February 11, 2010 at 1:07 pm

Hey lady! My mom sent me a photo of the snow you guys are having this morning. Petrie is LOVING it. Stay safe down there!

Also, mucho thank you for hooking us up the Vita info. :)

So jealous of your snow day!!
I have never been to the vagina monologues but I heard a lot of about it.
Thanks for sharing the giveaway I love Tiffanys!!

Nicci February 11, 2010 at 11:06 am

I hope we make it to the plays…snow isn’t helping. Cross fingers nothing gets canceled. It is beautiful outside!!

Diana @ frontyardfoodie February 11, 2010 at 11:05 am

we get quite a bit of snow each winter in KC so offices rarely, if ever, close for snow. Sometimes individuals can’t make it to work because of what street they live on though.

It’s snowy here but I’m working:(

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!!

fittingbackin February 11, 2010 at 11:04 am

I’m working from home today – but there’s not much snow here at all!

I have a musical tonight!! Mamma Mia!

Mari February 11, 2010 at 10:41 am

I am also stuck indoors, I can not WAIT for spring =)

The Brunette February 11, 2010 at 10:35 am

You know it’s a bad winter when Texas has a snow day! Also, RENT is some of the greatest workout music ever recorded

Kelly February 11, 2010 at 10:10 am

That baked oatmeal looks fabulous! Are you in Dallas? I am in Austin and it is sleeting like crazy here…ugh!

Nicci February 11, 2010 at 11:07 am

Kelly- Were in Denton, North of Dallas.

Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) February 11, 2010 at 9:42 am

I am too scared to workout in the snow, or on slippery streets … it is also freakin’ cold here!

Jessica @ How Sweet February 11, 2010 at 9:30 am

I was stuck yesterday, but I am out now! Wish I wasn’t at work, tho. :)

Heather February 11, 2010 at 8:46 am

I LOVE that you have a snow day in Texas!
If I was there, I would stay when you put RENT on. I am pretty much obsessed with it, I know every word. I’ve seen it 5 times and cried every time!
