Hello to My Plate!

by Nicci on 06/02/2011

The food pyramid has been around since 1992, and this month the USDA came out with a new icon.  I personally think this new icon is very simple and clear; showing an example of  portion control and how much of each nutrient we should be consuming.

This is the new food plate released for June 2011 by the USDA.

More information is available at the Choose My Plate website!  The website has lots of information on food groups, preparing healthy meals, tips and interactive tools.

Did the food pyramid confuse you? What do you think of the new icon?

Happy New Year-Life Goals In 2010

by Nicci on 01/01/2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Chris and I had veggie tacos for dinner and stayed home.  I believe I crashed around 12:07, after one glass of champagne and a couple bites of sushi.

HappyNewYear

I’ve been trying to come up with goals that can last more than just the year. I prefer to call them ”Long Term Life Goals” rather than ”New Year Goals” those seem to never last longer than mid summer.

  1. Focus on spiritual relationship with God
  2. Run 1/2 Marathon-March- Keep enjoying running
  3. Volunteer
  4. Save, Save, Save – practice good spending habits
  5. Learn a new dish weekly
  6. Drink more water
  7. Practice Yoga 3x week
  8. Be more adventurous
  9. Attend a Blogger Convention/Summit
  10. Share my blog with more family and friends
  11. Sorry I announced this on Twitter this morning: Run 2010 miles in the next year (I will attempt this)

Things I did/learned in 2009

Holiday Challenges

by Nicci on 11/02/2009

Kicking November off with a Bang!

November Goals:

  1. Drink more water
  2. Workout morning and evening
  3. Less processed foods
  4. Spend more time with family

Many challenges are going on and it’s a great time to pick one to help you get through the Holidays.  I’m participating in POTM and also another challenge at TheNest that Kelsey from Kelseytoney has told me about. This challenge will be great with POTM.  Please go check it out, thanks again Kelsey!

I felt so refreshed this morning, I couldn’t believe how an extra hour can make a difference.  Thank you Mr. Daylight Savings…for the extra time to workout, eat breakfast at home and watch The Morning Show.

I’m happy to say I started the day with a workout and ended it with a workout too!

  • 30 min. Cardio (morning)
  • 30 min. High Def Sculpt (evening)
  • 30 min. Total Body Sculpt (evening)

Yogurt, granola with fruit always makes me happy.

Lunch was a Chipotle burrito with Carlos.

Tofu Stir Fry & Whole Grain Pilaf was on the menu for dinner tonight.

Cut the tofu into cubes and marinate in stir fry sauce for 15 minutes over the stove.  After cooking the frozen vegetables, I added the tofu and 90 sec Kashi Pilaf to the mix.

This delicious meal took less then 30 minutes to prepare.  We now call tofu ”chicken” at home. Chris likes tofu but would rather I call it chicken, so he can imagine it’s meat. Lol

Can’t forget the fruit salad on the side as dessert.

New things in November:

  1. Healthy Living Challenges
  2. Anniversaries (4 year dating anniversary)
  3. Weddings
  4. Birthdays
  5. Holidays with family & friends
  6. 18 days, 18 days, 18 days till New Moon

What challenges are you participating in, to help you through the Holidays?

Good Night
