Healthy Living Summit: Part II

by Nicci on 08/18/2010

Food.

Breakfast

Lunch was provided by Arnold® and Oroweat®.

I had the Quinoa salad, mixed green salad, turkey on wheat and veggies.

Snack time was provided by Athenos.

They even had a fun photo session set up during snack time.

Veggies….anyone?

Fitness. The lovely Diana and Gena took turns teaching a Zumba class. This was so much fun and I loved seeing how different instructors teach Zumba.

My instructor plays more salsa but these ladies did a mix of Latin & hip hop! Loved it.

Dinner. Chicago Curry House put together by the wonderful and sweet Gena of Fitnessista

These were the Summit Sessions I enjoyed and learned new things from:

  • Cooking Ethical Meals on the Cheap: Come Learn Just How Easy, Delicious and Affordable Ethical Eating Can Be
  • Stepping up Your Blog Photography
  • You Can Have It All: Time-management and organization for your healthy lifestyle

I’ll be sharing tidbits from each session later this week!

Healthy Living Summit 2010 Part I

by Nicci on 08/17/2010

I’m still on cloud nine from the Healthy Living Summit: Bloggers for a Balanced Lifestyle.  I met the so many amazing people, finally met bloggers I’ve tweeted and chatted with for over a year and learned a great deal of information.

Welcome to downtown Chicago.

After checking into the hotel and meeting my roommates, we met with some other bloggers and headed to Raw for lunch.

My first Raw experience.

The owner provided samples for us to try.

A delicious raw ravioli, way tastier than cooked ravioli.

 Raw lemon square dessert.

I tried the raw Spaghetti and Meatballs. Perfecttion.

Orange Silky truffles for dessert…Yum

Everyone enjoyed the raw experience and I know I’ll definitely need to try more raw foods, in my local area!

(myself, Dorry, Jessica, Courtney, Jessie, Erin)

Later that night, we caught the Blue Line to the OpenSky Cocktail Party at Laselle Power Co.

I loved meeting bloggers friends in real life.

Morgan and I

Swanky Party on the third level of Lasalle Power Co.

 Freya, myself, Shannon and CaSaundra

After a few drinks, eats and chatting I headed back to the hotel with my roommates to prepare for the first day of the Summit. The party was only three hours but I was dead tired from traveling and packing the night before.

Whose eaten Raw food before, what was your favorite dish?

Big thanks to my Chicago HLS trip sponsor again!!

Chicago Here I Come

by Nicci on 05/20/2010

Happy to say I will be attending the 2nd annual Healthy Living Summit in August.  I’ve never been to Chicago, so if anyone knows of places to eat and visit, please let me know.

I came home just in time to purchase my ticket Wednesday night after Zumba class and a 2 mile run.

Loving my new Yoga top, purchased for a measly $1.99 @ Old Navy. Woohoo gotta love that store; the tank kept me nice and cool during Zumba.

Freaking out…

I’ve been slacking in the running department lately…shame on me. I’m running this 5k with Kyra from A Foodie Gets Fit on Saturday for ”Run for Retrievers”; can’t wait to meet her in person.  I’m focusing on fun rather than time, but I know I may change my mind at the last minute before the race begins.

Snack Attack.

Last night called for a late night smoothie since my body is craving fruits. Some weeks I go heavy on veggies but slack on fruit; not on purpose.

My smoothie contained:

  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 packet Amazing Grass Green Food

 Happy Friday.
