Savory Eats and Shopping

by Nicci on 09/20/2009

I didn’t make it to the picnic or parade today, headache would not go away.  Instead I went to the store for one thing but came back with 6 bags. lol

Currently cooking Chris brownies to change subject about my shopping extravaganza when he gets home. Hope the Cowboys win or he’ll be one sad guy. :( Chris went to  Rangers Baseball game, then the Cowboys game today!

I grabbed a quick lunch before heading out the door.

PB&J sandwich, apple and yogurt.

I added some yummy sweet trail mix to my Vanilla Chobani

I had a sweet tooth today: peanuts, cashews, chocolate and pb chips and dried cranberries (somewhere in there)

Great Finds= Great Sunday

This cost me $10 bucks in all: vases $2.00 & holders and canldles were $8.00

Hello Maties!!  Found my Halloween costume too. I actually spent under $15, not too much loot.  I usually go all out and spend over $100 for everything. Halloween is my fav holiday EVER!

Are you wondering what I’m going as…lol

I’ve never has Pilaf before. I absoultely loved this Kashi Fiery Fiesta!  I found this at the store for $1.30.

Topped with feta cheese, 1/2 sweet potato and grilled chicken w/ salsa.

Your tacos look DELISH!!!!
I totally recommend BFL but… I too need more than one cheat day. I am thinking maybe just a cheat meal two nights a week… Fri/Sat!

The Duo Dishes September 22, 2009 at 12:34 pm

The Kashi pilaf is a new one. Haven’t seen it before. It sounds like it’d be filling though. Gotta look for that one in the stores!

Lauren September 22, 2009 at 11:37 am

I LOVE Kashi! I’ve never tried their rice mixes yet. I’ll have to give them a shot because they sounded good from reading your blog.

Love the candles on the wall too!

Katie September 22, 2009 at 7:13 am

My boyfriend’s family members are all die-hard Redskins fans, except one, who roots for the Cowboys! It’s hilarious to see them all together, arguing in.

I LOVE Kashi pilafs. Since they’re already pretty loaded, I usually just mix them up with whatever I’m eating- baked tofu, sweet potato, broc, etc.

Kristen @ Simply Savor September 22, 2009 at 6:44 am

ahh halloween is my favorite holiday too!! can’t wait to see what you’re going as! I still need to figure out my costume…has to be super creative :)

Jessica @ How Sweet September 22, 2009 at 5:53 am

We didn’t really like the Kashi pilaf, but I bet you’re onto something with adding the cheese! Cheese makes everything better. :)

Erica September 22, 2009 at 3:28 am

Halloween is MY favorite holiday too! I am so excited! I’m trying to get Josh to decide on one of the options I’ve picked for costumes so I can get to shopping. Love the candles/candle holders! Very pretty. I usually put some form of nuts in my pilaf and peas.

AH! So cool that they’re offering free Les Mills classes!! If you take them, let me know which ones you take and what you think!!

Nicci September 21, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Yea, I didn’t believe in celebrating it as a child. but now i like to dress up for the most part, adn candy is always good, in moderation.

maria September 21, 2009 at 10:33 pm

Thanks for the comment on my blog. That mix you added to your yogurt looks yummy! :)

I always think its funny when people say they love Halloween because it was just never a big deal in our house growing up, I suppose, but it is fun now that I am older.

Shopping September 21, 2009 at 10:00 pm

I may have to pick up some of that kashi pilaf when I am home and bring it back here. We have limited options.

Menden @ Skinny Menny September 21, 2009 at 7:52 pm

I LOVE Halloween too! It’s my absolute favorite holiday of the year.

I also have the same problem when I go to the grocery store – I go in for one thing and end up with a whole cart full!

Hope you’ve had a great day :)

Alyshia September 21, 2009 at 7:32 pm

That yogurt looks soooooooooooo good!!!

Wow I could probably eat that indulgent trail mix in about 3 sittings hahaha. Lovely eats girly!

Meredith (Pursuing Balance) September 21, 2009 at 6:04 pm

Trailmix is so fun! I always have to portion it out though otherwise it’s way too easy for me to take too many handfuls.

Paige @ Running Around Normal September 21, 2009 at 5:54 pm

I hope your headache went away fast! Those candles are sooo cute:)

Allison September 21, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Thank you SO much for the sweet comment you left me. I’ve been trying to stay productive today so I’m not so overwhelmed the rest of the week. First of all, your lunch is RIGHT down my alley…trail mixes are my ALL time favorite snack. I’ve been thinking about trying Chobani, but I’m not sure if I should go for that or Oikos (sp?) first? I know I’ll need to get used to the tartness of them both…any suggestions? Hmm I love to use my pilafs as a base…adding cut up chicken, salsa, extra veggies, etc. I really need to try that brand! Hope you’re having a wonderful Monday! And YES, I definitely agree about a blogger meet up once things start settling down over here! :)

Nicole September 21, 2009 at 2:34 pm

I’m like that as well! I go to the store for one thing and I come back with 100! Also, when I’m not supposed to be buying anything or I tell myself I don’t ‘need’ anything, I find everything! Argh! Can’t wait to see what you’re going to be for Halloween!

Taylor September 21, 2009 at 11:59 am

I love the candle holders, I have something similar.

Yum Yucky September 21, 2009 at 11:43 am

Laura September 21, 2009 at 10:38 am

OMG, your husband sounds just like mine – if the Bears lose it ruins his whole day!

Great finds and delicious food! I haven’t made pilaf in ages – looks good!

OOoh yummy trail mix and pilaf. I’ve never tried the Kashi pilaf, but it looks really good! I love saving $$.

Love the blog. Looks like your eating healthy. Keep it up!

Lee September 21, 2009 at 5:21 am

I bought that pilaf a few months ago when it was on sale but it’s been sitting in my cabinet ever since. I think I’m going to have to pull it out now that I’ve heard a good review of it.

Lesley Living Life September 21, 2009 at 3:28 am

Mmm, I love that Kashi pilaf but I haven’t had it in awhile.

Ha, you sound like me, I’ve been trying to only have to go to the store once a week and not forget anything because if I forget something i end up going like 3 extra times and getting way more than that one thing I forgot :s

Melinda September 21, 2009 at 3:21 am

Wasn’t the other day talk like a pirate day! I wish I would get trick or treaters here, but I live in an Azorean village and they do not celebrate this. I may visit a friend who lives on base and give out candy there since I love Halloween. I may have to pick up some of that kashi pilaf when I am home and bring it back here. We have limited options.

WholeBodyLove September 20, 2009 at 11:53 pm

I want to see the costume!! Whatever you chose, I’m sure you will look fabulous in it.

Sophia September 20, 2009 at 10:14 pm

Cheese on pilaf, of course, which you cleverly already did with the feta! Perfect! Or maybe even top with a grilled fruit?

Kaytee September 20, 2009 at 8:02 pm

The pilaf looks really good. I’ve never bought any Kashi products.

Where did you get your candle holders? They’re great!

jessica September 20, 2009 at 7:51 pm

ooh, curious about your halloween costume! that pilaf looks awesome. i love kashi products, so i’ll have to look out for it next time i’m grocery shopping.
